Explore the World of Belting
Belting is a powerful and expressive way of using the voice, heard in musical theatre, pop, rock, soul, gospel, R&B, and many other styles.
This one-day workshop focuses on Belt Voice Quality within the Estill Voice Training® Model and explores in practice how vocal choices related to belting can be identified, practised, and applied in different singing situations.
During the day, we will explore the anatomical and acoustic mechanisms behind Belt and practise tools offered by the Estill Voice Training® Model for building Belt Voice Quality and exploring how it can be varied to meet different artistic and stylistic goals.
The aim is to understand Belt Voice Quality through both practical experience and an understanding of how the voice works – and to discover tools for using it in versatile and purposeful ways.
Through practical exercises and listening, we will explore different variations of Belt Voice Quality and how it can be applied to different musical, stylistic, and artistic goals.
For singing teachers and vocal coaches, the workshop also offers tools for analysing Belt Voice Quality and practical strategies for working with a variety of belting-related challenges.

During the day, we will explore topics including:
- the anatomical and acoustic foundations of Belt Voice Quality
- building Belt Voice Quality using the Estill Voice Training® Model
- different variations of Belt
- belting at different pitches
- belting and diction
- practical training strategies
- exploring common challenges related to belting
- tools for singers, singing teachers, and vocal coaches
- Open Session / Master Class
The workshop includes plenty of practical work.
The day concludes with an Open Session / Master Class, where participants can apply the concepts explored during the day to their own singing with guidance from the Course Instructors.
If you would like to work on a song during the Open Session, you may bring a backing/karaoke track or sheet music with chord symbols if accompaniment is desired.

Course Instructors
Dorte Hyldstrup, EMCI-ATP-SD (Denmark)
Dorte Hyldstrup has worked professionally with the voice as both a singer and teacher for more than 35 years. She has taught voice at leading institutions including the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, the Danish National Academy of Music (DKDM), the Institute of Music Science, music schools, and numerous professional training programs throughout Scandinavia and Europe.
Since 2000, Dorte has taught more than 200 Estill Voice Training courses across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Ukraine, Russia, and Greece.
Her journey with Estill Voice Training began in 1988, when she travelled to New York to study directly with Jo Estill. In 1991, she organized the very first Estill course in Denmark and had the privilege of working alongside Jo Estill as her assistant for the following nine years. Today, Dorte is recognized as one of the world’s most experienced and respected Estill educators.
Antti Annola, EMCI
Antti Annola is an Estill Mentor & Course Instructor (EMCI), singer, and voice pedagogue from Finland. He is the first Finnish EMCI and has been teaching Estill Voice Training® for more than a decade.
Antti has taught voice at universities and other educational institutions across Finland, including the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, working with singers, actors, and other voice professionals.
Alongside his teaching career, Antti is widely known as the tenor of the internationally acclaimed Finnish a cappella group Rajaton. His performing career spans classical singing, jazz, musical theatre, and contemporary music. Through his work with Rajaton, he has also performed with numerous symphony orchestras across Europe and North America.
In his teaching, Antti combines extensive performing experience with modern, evidence-informed voice pedagogy.

Workshop Venue and Schedule
The workshop will take place in Tampere, Finland, on Sunday, June 13, 2027, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Registration
Registration takes place in two steps:
- Register for the workshop through the official Estill Voice International registration page.
- An invoice for the workshop fee will be sent to the email address you provide within a few business days. Your place is confirmed once the workshop fee has been paid.
Cancellation Policy
Registration is binding. Workshop fees are non-refundable if a participant cancels their registration or is unable to attend the workshop.
However, participants may transfer or sell their place to another person, subject to the waiting list, if applicable.
The Course Instructors reserve the right to cancel the workshop due to force majeure or insufficient enrolment. In such cases, participants will be offered a place on another Estill Voice Training® course whenever possible. If this is not possible, the workshop fee will be refunded in full.
